Abstract: To study the effect of sepia melanin on mice’s organ coefficient and lead excretion in mice suffering lead poisoning, the experimental model of lead-poisoning mice were established via intraperitoneal injection of lead acetic solution.Gavage treatment of sepia melanin was given to those poisoning mice and the blood was collected by picking the eyeballs of mouse after 24 h.Then, mice were killed by breaking necks to acquire liver and brain tissue. The lead contents in blood, liver and brain were determined by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometer (ICP-AES).The results showed that sepia melanin had no significant effect on organ coefficient of mice. After 30 min poisoning by lead, mice were given gavage treatment by sepia melanin. The contents of lead in blood and liver in the treated group were lower than those in model group (P<0.01).After 24 h poisoning by lead, mice were given gavage treatment by sepia melanin. The lead contents in blood and liver in the treated group were lower than those in model group (P<0.01) and the lead content in brain was also decreased (P<0.05).This experiment indicated sepia melanin had significant effects on removing lead of mice within 24 h lead poisoning.
