Extraction of Cellulose from Pomelo Peel using Alkaline Hydrogen Peroxide

Abstract: In order to obtain high cellulose content from pomelo peel,the extraction process of cellulose using alkaline hydrogen peroxide was studied.The effects of extraction temperature,extraction time,sodium hydroxide concentration and H2 O2 concentration on cellulose content were investigated.On the basis of single factor experiments,the optimal extraction conditions of pomelo peel cellulose was determined using orthogonal test,and the extract was analyzed by infrared spectroscopy.The results indicated that the optimal conditions for cellulose extraction were:extraction temperature of 80 ℃,extraction time of 3 h,sodium hydroxide concentration of 4%,H2 O2 concentration of 0.9%.Under these conditions,the cellulose content was 77%.The infrared spectroscopy analysis showed that the extract was cellulose compound.
