Abstract: The essential oil was extracted from Citrus maxima (Burm.) Merr. cv. Shatian Yu peels with distillation method. Response surface method was used to optimize the extraction process based on single factor experiments. Then the mosquito repellent activity of essential oil was tested by phobotaxis. The optimal extraction process were determined as follows:30 g of pomelo peel was treated in 200 mL of buffer containing 1% of sodium chloride for 100 min,of which the extraction yield was up to 1.65%. The extracted essential oil has considerable mosquito repellent activity, which deserve to be researched further. The result of this study provided scientific basis for the application of C. maxima essential oil.
