Abstract: To investigate the changes in volatile oil components of dried and fresh Daozhen Luolong Codonopsis in different picking time. The volatile oil components of dried and fresh Daozhen Luolong Codonopsis were extracted via the steam distillation method and identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) technology. The relative percentage of each component was calculated by peak area normalization method. The main volatile oil components of dried Daozhen Luolong Codonopsis were palmitic acid, linoleic acid, myristic acid, methyl hexadecanoate, octadecadienoic acid methyl ester, and squalene. The main volatile oil components of fresh Daozhen Luolong Codonopsis  were squalene, octadecadienoic acid methyl ester, palmitic acid,14-methyl-pentadecanoic acid-methyl ester, and l-limonene.The common volatile oil components of dried and fresh Daozhen Luolong Codonopsis collected in the middle of November were the highest. The types of volatile oil components in dried and fresh Daozhen Luolong Codonopsis were similar, but their contents were obviously different. The common volatile oil components of dried and fresh Daozhen Luolong Codonopsis in different picking times were similar, but there were significant differences in the other volatile oil components. In this study, the volatile oil components of Daozhen Luolong Codonopsis were analysised and reported for the first time,in order to provide reference for the further development and research of Daozhen Luolong Codonopsis.
