Abstract:

In this paper, nanoscale pumpkin inositol extract (NPIE) was prepared, then its hypoglycemic effect was evaluated in Streptozocin (STZ)-induced diabetic mice and the effect compared to common pumpkin inositol extract (CPIE). The experiment was comprised of diabetic mice treated with the low- and high- dose (250 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg) of NPIE and CPIE, respectively, positive controls with Metformin Hydrochloride (Met), and model group administrated with distilled water. The experiment term was 30 days. The results showed that the pumpkin extract contained 3.21% inositol and 53.21% polysaccharide, in which the average diameter of NPIE was less than 500 nm. After animal experiment, all groups had no influence on the acute hypoglycemic effect of normal mice and the body weight of diabetic mice; however, a significantly ?reduced levels of the random and fasting blood glucose and a improvement in blood glucose tolerance were noticed in the diabetic mice treated with 500 mg/kg of NPIE. And the hypoglycemic effect of NPIE was slightly lower than Met, but higher than CPIE.
