Abstract:

The activations of mushroom tyrosinase and melanin synthesis in a cell-free system by 50% ethanol extracts obtained from 45 Chinese herbs commonly used for the treatment of vitiligo were tested. The extracts of 21 Chinese herbs showed activating effect on tyrosinase and the production of melanin from dopachrome by autoxidation. Ligustrum lucidum, plum and star anise pronounced high activating effect on tyrosinase. Classification of Chinese herbs was analyzed to explore the roles of the medication. It was necessary to separate and purify new effective components in these Chinese herbs, and evaluating their application.
