Abstract: The foaming and rheological properties of sodium alginate (NaAlg)/ sodium dodecyl ethoxy sulfate(AES) blend systems were studied by Ross-Miles foamer and rheometer in attempt to explore the influence of NaAlg on foam stability and the mechanisms of action. The results show that the foam ability and foam stability of the compounded systems are increasing with amount of NaAlg increase or with the decrease of the pH value of the solution from 7.0 to 5.0.The rheological study proves that the rheological response of the blend solutions is sensitive to the variation of NaAlg amount. The steady shear measurement reveals that blend solutions behave generally like Newtonian fluids under laboratory conditions.Dynamic frequency sweep reveals that storage modulus (G’) of the blend solution is lower than its loss modulus (G”),thus,NaAlg/ AES systems mainly presents viscous.
