Abstract: β-Cyclodextrin polymer (β-CDP) microspheres were synthesized in inverse emulsion with β-cyclodextrin as material and epichlorohydrin (ECH) as crosslinking agent. Cationic β-cyclodextrin polymer microspheres were synthesized by GTA and β-CDP microspheres. The preparation process was optimized by using Response Surface Methodology based on the evaluation indicators of the degree of substitution and reaction efficiency. The cationic polymer microspheres were characterized by Scan electron microscope, laser particle analyzer, FT-IR spectroscopy and thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA). The results indicated that GTA was grafted onto the β-CDP microspheres, and the thermal stablity of neutra β-cyclodextrin polymer microspheres was good. The predicted maximum composite score was 17.56 when the quantity of β-CDP microspheres was 1 g, the quantity of GTA was 0.0197 g, the reaction temperature was 47.78 ℃ and the reacting time was 4.06 h. The average degree of substitution and average reaction efficiency were 28.3% and 77.9%, respectively.
