Abstract: Antrodia camphorata is a precious medicinal mushroom of Taiwan,which was used as a traditional medicine for the protection of diverse health-related conditions and treatment of food and drug intoxications,diarrhea,abdominal,hepertension,liver cancer and skin itching.In order to test the effects of A.camphorata extracts on HSV-2, MTT method was applied to evaluate cell toxicity and then the HIV-2 suppression in vitro was analyzed.Both 1.5 mg/mL ethanol extract and 2.5 mg/mL water extract showed low toxicity for Vero cells and inhibited HSV-2 adhesion and replication with IC₅₀ value of 0.30 mg/mL and 1.32 mg/mL,respectively.All of the results demonstrated that the extracts of A. camphorata showed significantly suppressive effects against HSV type II.
