Studies on Chemical Constituents in Roots of Strophanthus divaricatus

Abstract: Six compounds were isolated and purified from the roots of Strophanthus divaricatus (Lour.) Hook et Arn by repeated column chromatography on silica.The structures were elucidated by the NMR spectral analysis.They were identified as(+)-pinoresinol(1),sarmentogenin(2),17β-H-sarmentogenin(3),divaricoside(4), β-sitosterol(5) and daucosterol(6).Except for the compound 1,5 and 6,the other three compounds are cardiac glycosides.Compounds 1 and 3 were obtained from this plant for the first time.
