Abstract: In this study, the xanthine oxidase inhibitory activities of extracts obtained from 9 Chinese herbal medicines (Flos puerariae, Herba selaginellae, root of Herba selaginellae, Orthosiphonari status, Herba centipedae, Alpinia officinarum Hance, Gynostemma pentaphyllum (Thunb.) Makino,Herba abri, Lonicera japonica) were investigated. The results showed that all extracts had significant inhibitory effects under the concentration of 2 mg/mL,and the inhibition rate ranged from 33% to 79%.The half-inhibitory concentrations (IC50) of F.puerariae, O.status, L.japonica were determined to be 0.65,0.96,0.74 mg/mL,respectively.The inhibition type was of competitive-induced mixed inhibition.
