Abstract: The D-galactose induced brain aging model was used to study the effect of 25 odors coral pills on hippocampus. The morphology of pyramidal cells and the expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in hippocampus were determined in each experimental group.Hippocampal neuronal degeneration on CA3 region was observed by hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining, the expression of GFAP was explored by immunohistochemistry,Western blotting and densitometric analysis. The results showed that compared with model group, the degeneration of hippocampal pyramidal cells on CA3 in 25 odors coral pills group was significantly improved and the number of cells positive for GFAP and the expression of GFAP in the hippocampus were significantly reduced. These results indicated that 25 odors coral pills inhibited hippocampal neuronal degeneration and the GFAP expression in the D-galactose induced brain aging rats.
