Abstract: To study the anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of Lycium barbarum polysaccharides and its potential molecular mechanism, pain index and inflammation related molecules were detected during hot plate test, formalin pain experiment and primary cultured dorsal root ganglia neuron cells in mice. The data showed that Lycium barbarum polysaccharides significantly alleviated the II phase pain (P<0.05) caused by the injection of Formalin, reducing the weight difference of two hind feet (P<0.001) and the content of interleukin 6 in the blood (P<0.001) and spinal cord tissue (P<0.05),while had no effect on the latent period of hot plate in mice;Lycium barbarum polysaccharide reduced the function of TRPV1 on the primary cultured DRG cell (P<0.05).The result proved that Lycium barbarum polysaccharide has a good anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect, and its analgesic mechanism may be related to decreasing the expression of interleukin 6 and the followed increase of TRPV1 activity.

Key words: Lycium barbarum polysaccharides, inflammatory pain, formalin, IL-6, TRPV1
