Abstract: Artemisia argyi is a widely used traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).In this work, solidphase microextraction(SPME)followed by gas chromatography mass spectrometry(GCMS)was developed for the fast determination of volatile chemical compositions of the leaves, moxas and branches of Artemisia argyi.The experimental parameters of the SPMEGC/MS were optimized by orthogonal experimental design. The results indicated that the optimum condition of the determination of the volatile compounds in Artemisia argyi was achieved with the experimental parameters including PDMS /DVB fiber, extraction temperature of 80 ℃,and time of 30 min.Under the optimal conditions, fortyfour compounds in the Artemisia argyi leaves, moxa and branches are identified by SPMEGCMS.The total compounds in the Artemisia argyi leaves, moxa and branches, which mainly include eucalyptol(24.443%,13.752%,6.248%),thujone(21.311%,2.349%),caryophyllene(11.756%,18.375%,20.074%),endoBorneol(2.128%,9.211%,6.742%),camphor(3325%,7.238%,3.819%),are identified by this methods.Compared to the volatile components in Artemisia argyi leaves, the main components(including the two active compounds of caryophyllene and borneol)are also found in the moxa and branches of Artemisia argyi. These results show that Artemisia argyi leaves as well as moxas and branches might be used as TCM.
