Abstract: Garcinia mangostanaL.(Clusiaceae) is a kind of tropical fruit.It has been used as traditional medicine for the treatment of diarrhoea,inflammation,skin infections and wounds in Southeast Asia.Previous studies showed that it contains high amounts of xanthenones,and these compounds exhibited a variety of pharmacological activities including anti-tumor,anti-oxidation,enzyme inhibition,antimicrobial and antiprotozoal activities.In this paper,we summarize the chemical constituents from the pericarp of Garcinia mangostana and their pharmacological activities in recent years in order to provide ideas for the development and utilization of the pericarp of G.mangostana.
