Abstract:

In order to screen for the active fraction with the most potent antibacterial activity and its corresponding antibacterial components of the extract of Cedrelopsis grevei, the antibacterial activities of its ethanol extract, together with the subsequent four solvent partition fractions including petroleum ether, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, and n-butanol fraction, were tested and compared against Staphylococcus aureus (CCTCC number:AB91093),Escherichia coli (CCTCC number:AB93154),and Salmonella enterica(CCTCC number:AB94018) in vitro, respectively. As a result, the petroleum ether fraction were screened out with the most potent antibacterial activity against S. aureus, and its minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) were 4 and 32 μg/mL,respectively.Next,in order to further explore the active components in the petroleum ether fraction of C. grevei, the gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was used for the analysis of the volatile components in this fraction, and 5 major types with a total of 42 chemical components were successfully identified. The sesquiterpenoids accounted for 95.15% of the total components in the petroleum ether fraction of C. grevei, most of them were reported to possess significant antibacterial activity, and might be the major active ingredients in this fraction.
