Abstract:

Chloranthus fortunei (A.Gray) Solms-Laub,commonly known as “sikuaiwa” in Chinese, has been used to alleviate the sufferings of carbuncles, bruises, furuncles, and dysmenorrhea.Previous phytochemical investigations on this plant have revealed the presence of sesquiterpenoids, sesquiterpenoid dimers, diterpenoids, flavonoids, coumarins, and phenolic acids.Herein, various chromatographic techniques and spectroscopic methods were used to conduct the chemical study on the whole plants of C. fortunei.14 compounds were obtained from the 95% ethanol extract of C. fortunei and identified as curzerenone (1),zederone (2),curcodione (3),chlorantene C (4),(1E,4Z)-8-hydroxy-6-oxogermacra-1(10),4,7(11)-trieno-12,8-lactone (5),zederone epoxide (6),13-epitorulosol (7),vomifoliol (8),(-)loliolide (9),7,4′-dimethylnaringenin (10),quercetin-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside (11),quercetin-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (12),catechin (13),and p-coumaric acid (14).Compounds 1,3,and 8-14 were firstly isolated from the genus Chloranthus, and compounds 2 and 4-7 were firstly obtained from this plant. Moreover, some of the isolated compounds were screened for their neuroprotective activities using CCK8 method, compounds 1-6 exhibited moderate neuroprotective effects.
