Abstract:

An investigation was made on observe the effect of sweet potato extract on promoting PC12 and SK-N-SH cells proliferation and neurite outgrowth. Using PC12 and SK-N-SH cells cultured in vitro, as detecting the living rates of PC12 and SK-N-SH cells by MTT and calculating positive cell rate of which length of neurite exceeding 2 times of the neural body or the number of neurite exceeding 3, to evaluate the promoting effect of sweet potato on PC12 and SK-N-SH cells proliferation and neurite outgrowth. The results showed that sweet potato extract is able to promote PC12 and SK-N-SH cells neurite outgrowth and to increase the number of positive cells, has a certain neurotrophic effect and it is a good neuroprotective agent.
