Abstract:

The immunomodulations of Porphyridium cruentum and its exopolysaccharide were investigated by establishment of cyclophosphamide (CY) induced immunosuppressive mice model. The mice randomly divided into six groups. Among them, two groups were given 1200 mg/kg and 600 mg/kg the P. cruentum powder by gastric perfusion respectively, and the other two groups were given 300 mg/kg and 150 mg/kg the exopolysaccharide P. cruentum by gastric perfusion respectively. The treatment carried out 14 days. The results showed that the P. cruentum powder and the exopolysaccharides could obviously increase the levels of index of spleen and thymus, the clearance of charcoal particle, and the phagocytic function of mononuclear-macrophage in the mice, while decrease the number of peripheral blood leucocyte. So Porphyridium cruentum and its exopolysaccharide had the abilities to up-regulate the immunity in vivo. In the toxicity test, the mice randomly divided into five groups. Among them, two groups were injected 300 mg/kg and 150 mg/kg the exopolysaccharide respectively, and the other two groups were given 1200 mg/kg and 600 mg/kg the powder of P. cruentum by gastric perfusion respectively. As the result,no mouse died which indicated Porphyridium cruentum and its exopolysaccharide were safety.
