Abstract: To investigate the protective effects of Clematis terniflora DC.on chronic abacterial prostatitis (CAP) in rats and its possible mechanism. The CAP rat models were established by estrogen induction to observe the protective effects of Clematis terniflora DC.The levels of IL-1β and TNF-α in serum were evaluated by enzymelinked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and the expression of iNOS and COX-2 were evaluated by Western Blotting and immunohistochemisty. The number of white blood cells was obviously decreased, the density of lecithin corpuscle in prostatic secretion was increased and the edema, inflammatory infiltration and proliferation of prostate were partly recovered by C.terniflora in estradiol benzoateinduced chronic abacterial prostatitis rats. C.terniflora  can obviously reduce the level of IL-1β and TNF-α in serum and the expression of iNOS and COX-2 in prostate tissue. These results demonstrated that C.terniflora had protective effects on chronic abacterial prostatitis.Participation of immune regulation and inhibiting COX-2 and iNOS expression may be the possible mechanisms.
