Abstract: To study the chemical compositions of volatile oil from Myricarubra cv.DingAo Orient Pearl and its anti-tumor activity. The volatile oil from M.rubra was extracted by steam distillation, and was identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).The antitumor effect of the oil was evaluated by MTT assay.Twentyseven compounds were identified, accounted for 92.37% of the extract. The major components were caryophyllene (20.80%),phthalic acid,hex-3-yl isobutyl ester (9.73%), n-hexadecanoic acid (26.55%),phenol,2,2′-methylenebis[6-(1,1-dimethylethyl)-4-methyl (6.55%),diisooctyl phthalate (4.23%) and β-sitosterol (3.23%).The oil showed significant antitumor activities against MGC-803,MCF-7,and A549 cells (tumor growth inhibitory rates were 57.3%,42.0%,and 42.4% at 200 μg/mL,respectively).
