Antioxidant Activity of Lagerstroemia indica Flower

Abstract

Abstract: The antioxidant activity of Lagerstroemia indica Linn.f.alba(Nichols.)Rehd and Lagerstroemia indica flowers was evaluated by three methods:DPPH radical scavenging, ABTS radical scavenging and FRAP assay.The results were compared with positive control BHT.The results showed that the L.indica flowers had good antioxidantactivity in vitro. The ethyl acetate extract of L.indica Linn.f.alba(Nichols.)Rehd showed igher DPPH radical scavenging activity(IC₅₀=7.4 μg/mL),ABTS radical scavenging activity(IC₅₀=1.8 μg/mL)and ferric reducing antioxidant power(TEAC=2664.7 μmol/g)than those of BHT(DPPH:IC₅₀=23 μg/mL,ABTS:IC₅₀=2.3 μg/mL and FRAP:TEAC=1532.7 μmol/g,respectively).The ethyl acetate extract of L.indica Linn.f.alba(Nichols.)Rehdshowed the highest antioxidant activity.
