Abstract:

To compare the chemical composition of the leaves of Perilla frutescens var. arguta (PFA) and P. frutescens var. frutescens (PFF),pre-column derivatization combining with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was applied for quantitative and qualitative analysis of amino acids, organic acids, sugars, phenolic acids and so on.Further, principal component analysis (PCA) and orthogonal partial least squares discrimination analysis (OPLS-DA) were applied for exploring their chemical differences.Eight metabolites, including D-arabitol,D-glucose,D-galactose,D-glucitol,D-sorbitol,caffeic acid, maltose and rosmarinic acid were screened out as differential metabolites.Among these eight differential metabolites, the content of D-glucose,D-glucitol,caffeic acid, maltose and rosmarinic acid were significantly higher in PFA leaves than in PFF leaves. In conclusion, these results indicated significant differences in multiple types of non-volatile components between PFA leaves and PFF leaves and provided fundamental data for application and development of different varieties of Perilla.
